About the Filmmaker

They Called Him Mr B is a KarinFilms documentary project.

KarinFilms is the filmmaking venture of Karin Gottschalk, who conceived, co-founded and contributed interviews and other articles to Australia’s respected magazine of visual art, culture and photography, (Not Only) Black+White. She was European Contributing Editor for some years and worked on special projects as well as BAU.

Black+White brought about positive change in Australian culture by telling stories about Australian creative achievement through words and pictures. It helped kill off the Great Australian Cultural Cringe. The brilliant, global careers of many Australian creatives began with a photographically illustrated article in the magazine.

KarinFilms is the natural extension of Karin’s magazine work by telling stories with sound and moving images. It provides the opportunity to realize the engaging, informative storytelling ideas pooh-poohed by publishers, producers and broadcasters before the digital moviemaking revolution kicked in.

Karin’s other documentary movie storytelling projects include My Asian Heart, a feature about Bangkok-based Australian humanitarian photojournalist Philip Blenkinsop as well as stories on great creatives in danger of being forgotten, their lessons lost to current generations.
